Update on IIT BHU's Reopening for Freshers: Campus Access and Academic Plans

Hey, I'm a freshie at IIT BHU, and the situation regarding the reopening of our campus is not looking very encouraging. The Dean of Academics Affairs has recently sent an email indicating that the university is still not planning to reopen for both Undergraduate (UG) and Master's Technology/Integrated Doctoral Degree (MTech/IDD) students in the near future.

According to the latest information, the university is most likely to welcome freshers around May or June. The delay in reopening is due to the ongoing pandemic and the necessary sanitization and safety measures that need to be in place.

However, not all hope is lost. While the main campus may remain closed for some time, some postgraduate courses are expected to start as early as 15th February. Additionally, the research-focused Ph.D. and MTech students who are already on campus can continue their work. However, the residential facilities and mess services will only function after the necessary sanitization and safety measures are completed.

Unfortunately, attempts to conduct virtual theory classes through online methods have not been very successful. The key focus will be on practicals and workshops, as these aspects of the curriculum do not have a viable alternative and require on-campus interaction.

For the undergraduate class, there is a possibility that BTech classes may start, but this is subject to the decision of the supreme authorities of the IITs. The academic and administrative authorities, such as the senate and the board of governors, need to take a final decision to start all Undergraduate (UG) and Post-Graduate (PG) classes.

Miracles do happen! Despite the challenges, there is always a chance that the university may decide to proceed with the reopening sooner than expected. Stay informed and stay positive!
